Project-Oriented Classes

At Purls Tucson we have project-oriented, multiple-session workshops as well as 1 to 2 hour technique-driven classes without projects.  Check out our "Technique Classes"  and "Saturday Clinics" and "Beginning Knitting & Crochet Classes" and "Knit & Crochet Dr. Aid" for our other classes.

Some classes fill up early, so be sure to sign up for those that you want to secure your spot. Classes without registered, or paid,  participants may be canceled or moved to a different time slot, so please register early. If the classes do not have enough participants, the instructor has the option to cancel the class, so please call to verify the status.

Workshop participants enjoy the sense of "knitting along" with others while the projects and their skills grow and grow. We schedule workshops for multiple classroom sessions with time in between for knit-alongs to get your project up to the next stage. Workshops are restricted to people who already possess proficiency in their basic knitting skills of casting on, knitting, purling, and binding off. You will learn any other techniques required for the project during the workshop. Come join the fun, and dare to push your skills to new heights.

Knit Doctor Appointments - daily, $20/hr

  Felted Knit Dr. Bag        $45

Are you in need of the perfect knitting bag that holds everything?  Perhaps you need a Knit Dr. Bag!  This sturdy and fashionable knitting bag will serve your knitting needs with a roomy interior and pockets.  The project uses 7 hanks of Cascade 220 in whatever colors or combination of colors you would like.  Bring your #11 circular needles (32 inches works great) and stitch markers.

Knitting 201 - Making a Sweater,  3 sessions - $60 (includes pattern & yarn)

In this course we will make a baby sweater using different stitch combinations.  We will cover gauging, increases, decreases, reading the fabric, and reading a pattern.  The sweater will be worked with a solid-color of chunky weight yarn, a machine-washable and dryable yarn great for babies.  We will make buttonholes and a neck edging.  Finally we will sew together the pieces to create a beautiful baby sweater.  You will only need to choose the buttons and decide who the lucky baby recipient will be!  If you have no baby to wear the sweater, consider donating it to one of the many charities available.  Class includes pattern and 2 balls of chunky yarn (to be picked out at the start of Class One).  Participants will need to purchase needles (size to be determined in Class One) and buttons.

     Saturdays, 11:00-1:00: 2/27, 3/13 3/20

Getaway Satchel Bag - 3 sessions, $40

Don’t you want a bag that looks like it was carried by Mary Poppins?  In this course we cover the techniques of intarsia, felting, needle felting, and bag assembly.  This roomy bag is delightful!  Don’t miss out.  Participants will need to have the book The Best of Interweave Knits or the original published pattern in Interweave Knits magazine from 2005.  See the pattern for supply list.

     Tuesdays, 2:00-4:00: 2/2, 3/2, 3/9
